Malaria

Malaria is caused by four species of parasites in the genus Plasmodium. They are:
Plasmodium falciparum, P. vivax, P. malariae and P. ovale.
There are several cases of malaria in Los Angeles County each year. Malaria is NOT
transmitted locally. All cases of malaria were acquired in other countries.
Malaria is transmitted by the bite of the Anopheles spp. mosquito.
